۞ قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ لَنُخۡرِجَنَّكَ يَٰشُعَيۡبُ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مَعَكَ مِن قَرۡيَتِنَآ أَوۡ لَتَعُودُنَّ فِي مِلَّتِنَاۚ قَالَ أَوَلَوۡ كُنَّا كَٰرِهِينَ
Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people, "We will surely evict you, O Shuʿayb, and those who have believed with you from our city, or you must return to our religion." He said, "Even if we were unwilling?

Al-Mukhtasar
The heads and leaders who were arrogant among Shuayb's people said to him: We will surely drive you, O Shuayb, out of this town of ours, you and those who have believed with you, or you will most certainly return to our religion. Shuayb said critically and in astonishment: Are we to follow your creed and religion, even if we hate it because we know the falsehood of what you are upon?
