فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٞ فَزَادَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مَرَضٗاۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمُۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكۡذِبُونَ
In their hearts is disease, so Allāh has increased their disease;13 and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie.

Al-Mukhtasar
This is because their hearts contain uncertainty, so Allah increases their doubtfulness by adding further hesitation to their uncertainty; hence, the punishment befits the crime. They will suffer painful torment in the lowest depths of the Fire for their lies against Allah and the people and for rejecting the message brought by Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم.
