Do you need a Quran.com alternative?

Published by the makers of Quran Habit. Quran.com is a genuinely good app for the right person, and this page says who that is before it says anything else.

The short answer

Most likely not. Quran.com is free with no in-app purchases at all, describes itself as "free of charge and without commercial interests", is open source on both platforms, and is run by Quran.Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Their iOS app renders real page images, and their release notes state those images come from the King Fahd Quran Printing Complex. If you are reading happily on it, there is nothing on this page that should move you.

What Quran Habit is

Where Quran Habit differs

There is one real gap, and it is about where the features live rather than whether they exist. Their about page lists "Reading Progress Tracking and Goals" among the features of the WEBSITE, and the footer of the same page describes the platform as providing "word-by-word translation". Neither mobile listing mentions streaks, goals or khatm plans, and neither claims a word-by-word display: the two Play hits for that phrase are both readers asking for it, one of them writing "Need word by word English translation like on your website". So if you read on a phone and want the pace-keeping and the word-level meaning in the same place as the reading, their own materials do not offer them there.
Quran Habit puts the two together: page-accurate mushaf reading with streaks, khatm plans and 33 weekly leagues in the same app. That is the whole of the difference, and it is worth switching for only if that specific split is the thing bothering you.

Where Quran.com beats us

On cost and independence, comprehensively. Quran.com is free with no in-app purchases at all, describes itself as "free of charge and without commercial interests", is open source on both platforms, and is run by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that takes donations. Quran Habit is a product with in-app purchases behind it, and it is closed source. Their mobile app also renders page images from the King Fahd Quran Printing Complex, which is the same kind of page-accurate reading we build around, so that is not a difference between us either.

Stay with Quran.com if

You want a completely free, ad-free, open-source mushaf and audio app from a nonprofit. On that job, Quran.com is the better fit.

The reasons people switch, where this page lists any, come only from those materials. Where their materials do not state something, this page says so rather than guessing, and silence in their materials is reported as silence, not as a missing feature.
