ٱلَّذِينَ تَتَوَفَّىٰهُمُ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ ظَالِمِيٓ أَنفُسِهِمۡۖ فَأَلۡقَوُاْ ٱلسَّلَمَ مَا كُنَّا نَعۡمَلُ مِن سُوٓءِۭۚ بَلَىٰٓۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمُۢ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ
The ones whom the angels take in death [while] wronging themselves,697 and [who] then offer submission, [saying], "We were not doing any evil." But, yes! Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of what you used to do.

Al-Mukhtasar
Those whose souls are taken by the angel of death and his helpers while wronging themselves by disbelieving in Allah will submit with total surrender when death comes to them. They will deny the disbelief and sins they used to do, thinking that such denial will benefit them. It will be said to them: You have lied. You were disbelievers who used to commit disobedience. Allah knows everything that you used to do in this world. Nothing is hidden from Him, and He will recompense you for that accordingly.
