وَلَقَدۡ بَعَثۡنَا فِي كُلِّ أُمَّةٖ رَّسُولًا أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱجۡتَنِبُواْ ٱلطَّٰغُوتَۖ فَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ هَدَى ٱللَّهُ وَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ حَقَّتۡ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلضَّلَٰلَةُۚ فَسِيرُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنظُرُواْ كَيۡفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ
And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allāh and avoid ṭāghūt."698 And among them were those whom Allāh guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed [i.e., travel] through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers.

Al-Mukhtasar
We had sent to every previous nation a messenger to command his nation to worship Allah alone and abandon the worship of others besides Him, such as idols, devils, etc. Allah guided some of them; they believed in Him and followed what His messenger brought. Others rejected Allah and went against the messenger. Thus, He did not assist them, and misguidance befell them. So travel through the earth to see for yourselves what the result of those who rejected [Allah] was after the torment and destruction came upon them.
