إِذۡ تَلَقَّوۡنَهُۥ بِأَلۡسِنَتِكُمۡ وَتَقُولُونَ بِأَفۡوَاهِكُم مَّا لَيۡسَ لَكُم بِهِۦ عِلۡمٞ وَتَحۡسَبُونَهُۥ هَيِّنٗا وَهُوَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ عَظِيمٞ
When you received it with your tongues980 and said with your mouths that of which you had no knowledge and thought it was insignificant while it was, in the sight of Allāh, tremendous.

Al-Mukhtasar
You were relating it to one another and passing it to one another through word of mouth, despite its falseness and you not knowing anything about it. You thought that was an easy, insignificant thing to do while it was grievous with Allah because it contains lies and accusing an innocent person.
