So that Day, their excuse will not benefit those who wronged, nor will they be asked to appease [Allāh].

Al-Mukhtasar
So on the day when Allah shall resurrect all of creation for the reckoning and recompense, all the excuses the wrongdoers make will not benefit them. They will not be asked to please Allah by repenting because the time has long expired.
