وَلَقَدۡ هَمَّتۡ بِهِۦۖ وَهَمَّ بِهَا لَوۡلَآ أَن رَّءَا بُرۡهَٰنَ رَبِّهِۦۚ كَذَٰلِكَ لِنَصۡرِفَ عَنۡهُ ٱلسُّوٓءَ وَٱلۡفَحۡشَآءَۚ إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ
And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her had he not seen the proof [i.e., sign] of his Lord. And thus [it was] that We should avert from him evil and immorality. Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants.

Al-Mukhtasar
She had desired to commit the indecent act, and the same thing would have crossed his mind. Had he not seen Allah's signs, he would not have been prevented from the act or distanced himself from it. We showed him Our proof to keep him pure from evil and distance him from unlawful sexual relations and betrayal. Joseph was one of Our slaves whom We chose for [conveying] the message and prophethood.
