وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي جَعَلَكُمۡ خَلَٰٓئِفَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَرَفَعَ بَعۡضَكُمۡ فَوۡقَ بَعۡضٖ دَرَجَٰتٖ لِّيَبۡلُوَكُمۡ فِي مَآ ءَاتَىٰكُمۡۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ سَرِيعُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَغَفُورٞ رَّحِيمُۢ
And it is He who has made you successors upon the earth and has raised some of you above others in degrees [of rank] that He may try you through what He has given you. Indeed, your Lord is swift in penalty; but indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful.

Al-Mukhtasar
Allah is the One who made you the successors of those who came before you on Earth so that you inhabit it after them. He has raised some of you in rank over others – in terms of physical form, livelihood, and other aspects – to test you through what He has given you. Your Lord, O Messenger, is quick in delivering justice, so everything that is approaching is close. He is also Forgiving and Compassionate towards those of His slaves who repent to Him.
