وَقَالُواْ لَوۡلَا نُزِّلَ عَلَيۡهِ ءَايَةٞ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۚ قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَادِرٌ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُنَزِّلَ ءَايَةٗ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ
And they say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, "Indeed, Allāh is Able to send down a sign, but most of them do not know."

Al-Mukhtasar
The polytheists, delaying the acceptance of belief, say stubbornly: Why has no extraordinary sign been sent down to Muhammad as proof from His Lord about the truth of what he has brought? Say, O Messenger: Allah can send down a sign as they wish, but most of these polytheists who demand that a sign be sent down do not know that signs are only sent down in accordance with Allah's wisdom and not per their demands. If He was to send it down and they still did not believe in it, He would destroy them.
