وَتِلۡكَ حُجَّتُنَآ ءَاتَيۡنَٰهَآ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ عَلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦۚ نَرۡفَعُ دَرَجَٰتٖ مَّن نَّشَآءُۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٞ
And that was Our [conclusive] argument which We gave Abraham against his people. We raise by degrees whom We will. Indeed, your Lord is Wise and Knowing.

Al-Mukhtasar
The argument, which is the statement of Allah: "Which of the two groups is more deserving of safety and security...?" which Abraham used to defeat his people in debate, is Our argument, which We showed and gave to him to use against his people. We raise in ranks whoever of Our slaves We will in this world and the Hereafter. Your Lord, O Messenger, is Wise in His creation and planning, and He knows all about His slaves.
