وَٱذۡكُرُوٓاْ إِذۡ أَنتُمۡ قَلِيلٞ مُّسۡتَضۡعَفُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ تَخَافُونَ أَن يَتَخَطَّفَكُمُ ٱلنَّاسُ فَـَٔاوَىٰكُمۡ وَأَيَّدَكُم بِنَصۡرِهِۦ وَرَزَقَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ
And remember when you were few and oppressed in the land, fearing that people might abduct you, but He sheltered you, supported you with His victory, and provided you with good things - that you might be grateful.

Al-Mukhtasar
Remember, O believers, when you were few in number in Mecca. Its residents considered you weak and overpowered you. You feared that your enemies would quickly seize you. Then, Allah took you into a shelter you could seek refuge in, which was Al-Medina, and strengthened you with victory over your enemies on the battlefields, including Badr. He provided for you with pure things; among them was the war booty you took from your enemies. [All that] so that you might be grateful to Allah for His blessings so He would give you more of them, and that you not be ungrateful for them, then He would seize it from you and torment you.
