Surah Al-Anfal 8:7 الأنفال

وَإِذۡ يَعِدُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ إِحۡدَى ٱلطَّآئِفَتَيۡنِ أَنَّهَا لَكُمۡ وَتَوَدُّونَ أَنَّ غَيۡرَ ذَاتِ ٱلشَّوۡكَةِ تَكُونُ لَكُمۡ وَيُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُحِقَّ ٱلۡحَقَّ بِكَلِمَٰتِهِۦ وَيَقۡطَعَ دَابِرَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
[Remember, O believers], when Allāh promised you one of the two groups438 - that it would be yours - and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours. But Allāh intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the disbelievers

Al-Mukhtasar
Remember, O arguing believers, when Allah promised you victory over one of the two parties of polytheists, either the caravan and the wealth it contained so you would take it as booty, or the squad so you would fight and defeat them. You preferred victory over the caravan due to the simplicity and ease of conquering it without fighting. However, Allah wanted the truth established by ordering you to fight to kill the polytheists' leaders and capture many of them so that the strength of Islam would become apparent.
