هَلۡ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا تَأۡوِيلَهُۥۚ يَوۡمَ يَأۡتِي تَأۡوِيلُهُۥ يَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ نَسُوهُ مِن قَبۡلُ قَدۡ جَآءَتۡ رُسُلُ رَبِّنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَهَل لَّنَا مِن شُفَعَآءَ فَيَشۡفَعُواْ لَنَآ أَوۡ نُرَدُّ فَنَعۡمَلَ غَيۡرَ ٱلَّذِي كُنَّا نَعۡمَلُۚ قَدۡ خَسِرُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَفۡتَرُونَ
Do they await except its result?377 The Day its result comes, those who had ignored it before will say, "The messengers of our Lord had come with the truth, so are there [now] any intercessors to intercede for us or could we be sent back to do other than what we used to do?" They will have lost themselves, and lost from them is what they used to invent.

Al-Mukhtasar
The disbelievers wait only for what they have been warned about, a painful punishment in the Afterlife as a result of their actions. The believers were also foretold about the reward of that day. Those who ignored the Quran in the life of this world, not acting according to what is in it, will then say: Indeed, the messengers of our Lord came with the truth, in which there was no doubt. If only there were a mediator who could now plead on our behalf so we could be excused from the punishment. Or if only we could return to the worldly life to do good actions that would save us instead of the bad we committed! The disbelievers have driven themselves to loss, earning their own ruin due to their disbelief. Those whom they used to worship beside Allah have abandoned them and can be of no help to them.
