Al-Mukhtasar
Alif Lām Mīm – letters like these begin certain surahs (chapters) of the Quran. Although separated letters (Alif, Baa, Taa, etc.) of the alphabet have no meaning in and of themselves, they do have wisdom and significance, as there is nothing in the Quran devoid of divine wisdom. Among the significance of these letters is their allusion to the linguistic miracle of the Quran, which comprises letters they know and speak with. Therefore, surahs beginning with letters are usually followed by the mention of the Quran, as we see in this surah.
