Is it not [true] that every time they took a covenant a party of them threw it away? But, [in fact], most of them do not believe.

Al-Mukhtasar
Due to the corrupt state of the Jews, whenever they took a covenant upon themselves, including the duty to believe in what the Torah revealed about the prophethood of Muhammad, they would always break any commitment they made. Instead, most of them do not believe in what Allah revealed because true belief leads to fulfilling commitments and promises.
