ٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ يَعۡرِفُونَهُۥ كَمَا يَعۡرِفُونَ أَبۡنَآءَهُمۡۖ وَإِنَّ فَرِيقٗا مِّنۡهُمۡ لَيَكۡتُمُونَ ٱلۡحَقَّ وَهُمۡ يَعۡلَمُونَ
Those to whom We gave the Scripture know him [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] as they know their own sons. But indeed, a party of them conceal the truth while they know [it].

Al-Mukhtasar
Those who have been given the book from the scholars of the Jews and the Christians know that changing the prayer direction is one of the signs of Muhammad's صلى الله عليه وسلم prophethood with them. They recognize this as well as they recognize their own children and can distinguish them from others. Despite this, a group of them hide the truth he brought due to their envy. They do that even though they know that it is the truth.
