لَوۡ أَنزَلۡنَا هَٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلٖ لَّرَأَيۡتَهُۥ خَٰشِعٗا مُّتَصَدِّعٗا مِّنۡ خَشۡيَةِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَتِلۡكَ ٱلۡأَمۡثَٰلُ نَضۡرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
If We had sent down this Qur’ān upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and splitting from fear of Allāh. And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought.

Al-Mukhtasar
If we sent down this Quran onto a mountain, you would have seen, O Messenger, that mountain, despite its firmness, lowly and breaking apart from the severity of [its] fear of Allah. [That is] due to what is in the Quran of deterring admonishments and severe threats. We give these examples to the people so they may work their minds and then accept reproval from what its verses contain of admonishments and morals.
