وَحَسِبُوٓاْ أَلَّا تَكُونَ فِتۡنَةٞ فَعَمُواْ وَصَمُّواْ ثُمَّ تَابَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ثُمَّ عَمُواْ وَصَمُّواْ كَثِيرٞ مِّنۡهُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرُۢ بِمَا يَعۡمَلُونَ
And they thought there would be no [resulting] punishment, so they became blind and deaf. Then Allāh turned to them in forgiveness; then [again] many of them became blind and deaf. And Allāh is Seeing of what they do.

Al-Mukhtasar
They thought that breaking their promises and covenants, lying, and murdering prophets would not bring about any harm. But it brought consequences that they could not even think of. They were blind and deaf to the truth and could not be guided. Then, Allah accepted their repentance due to His generosity. However, they became blind and deaf to the truth again, which happened to many of them. Allah sees all they do; nothing is hidden from Him, and He will recompense them for their actions.
