Surah Al-Mu'minun 23:100 المؤمنون

لَعَلِّيٓ أَعۡمَلُ صَٰلِحٗا فِيمَا تَرَكۡتُۚ كـَلَّآۚ إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَآئِلُهَاۖ وَمِن وَرَآئِهِم بَرۡزَخٌ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ يُبۡعَثُونَ
That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind."967 No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.

Al-Mukhtasar
I may do good actions when I return to it. Never! The matter is different from what you requested. It is only a statement he is uttering. If he were to return to worldly life, he would not fulfill what he promised. These people who have died will remain in a barrier between the world and the Afterlife until the Day of Resurrection. Thus, they will not return from it to the world to make up for what they lost and to correct what they spoiled.
