أَوَلَمَّآ أَصَٰبَتۡكُم مُّصِيبَةٞ قَدۡ أَصَبۡتُم مِّثۡلَيۡهَا قُلۡتُمۡ أَنَّىٰ هَٰذَاۖ قُلۡ هُوَ مِنۡ عِندِ أَنفُسِكُمۡۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٞ
Why [is it that] when a [single] disaster struck you [on the day of Uḥud], although you had struck [the enemy in the battle of Badr] with one twice as great, you said, "From where is this?" Say, "It is from yourselves [i.e., due to your sin]." Indeed, Allāh is over all things competent.

Al-Mukhtasar
When a calamity struck you, O believers, during your defeat at Uḥud, and among you were those who were killed, you had already achieved twice as much from your enemies on the day of Badr in terms of the dead and captured. You said: Where did this calamity come from? We are believers, and the Prophet of Allah is among us! Say, O Prophet: What happened only reached you because of yourselves- you disputed with the Messenger and disobeyed him. Allah is Omnipotent over everything, giving victory to whomever He wills and forsaking whomever He wills.
