أَفِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ أَمِ ٱرۡتَابُوٓاْ أَمۡ يَخَافُونَ أَن يَحِيفَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَرَسُولُهُۥۚ بَلۡ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ
Is there disease in their hearts? Or have they doubted? Or do they fear that Allāh will be unjust to them, or His Messenger? Rather, it is they who are the wrongdoers [i.e., the unjust].

Al-Mukhtasar
Is there a chronic illness in the hearts of these people, or is it that they are in doubt as to whether he is Allah's Messenger? Or do they fear Allah or His Messenger will wrong them in judgment? No, it is none of the aforementioned; rather, it is because of a defect within their souls due to their turning away from his judgment and their opposition to him.
