وَمَا ظَلَمۡنَٰهُمۡ وَلَٰكِن ظَلَمُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡۖ فَمَآ أَغۡنَتۡ عَنۡهُمۡ ءَالِهَتُهُمُ ٱلَّتِي يَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَيۡءٖ لَّمَّا جَآءَ أَمۡرُ رَبِّكَۖ وَمَا زَادُوهُمۡ غَيۡرَ تَتۡبِيبٖ
And We did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. And they were not availed at all by their gods which they invoked other than Allāh when there came the command of your Lord. And they did not increase them in other than ruin.

Al-Mukhtasar
O Messenger, We did not wrong them by afflicting them with destruction. However, they wronged their souls by bringing destruction upon themselves when they disbelieved in Allah. The gods they used to worship besides Allah did not repel the punishment that came down on them when the command of your Lord came for their destruction. On the contrary, these gods of theirs only increased them in loss and destruction.
