أَمۡ يَقُولُونَ ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُۖ قُلۡ إِنِ ٱفۡتَرَيۡتُهُۥ فَعَلَيَّ إِجۡرَامِي وَأَنَا۠ بَرِيٓءٞ مِّمَّا تُجۡرِمُونَ
Or do they say [about Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)], "He invented it"? Say, "If I have invented it, then upon me is [the consequence of] my crime; but I am innocent of what [crimes] you commit."

Al-Mukhtasar
The reason for the people of Noah disbelieving [in the message] is that they claimed that Noah had lied about the religion he came with, so Allah ordered His Prophet to tell them that if he had invented it, he would have been a wrongdoer. Therefore, the punishment for his crime would fall upon him alone. But, on the other hand, if they rejected the truth that he had brought them out of stubbornness and pride, they were the wrongdoers, and he was not responsible for their crime in any way. Instead, he was free from it.
