And when Our messengers, [the angels], came to Lot, he was anguished for them and felt for them great discomfort568 and said, "This is a trying day."

Al-Mukhtasar
When the angels came to Lot in the form of humans, he was distressed by their coming to him, and he became anxious and feared for their well-being because his people would approach men with desires instead of women. So Lot said it was a terrible day because he thought his people would force themselves on his guests.
