قَالَ يَبۡنَؤُمَّ لَا تَأۡخُذۡ بِلِحۡيَتِي وَلَا بِرَأۡسِيٓۖ إِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَن تَقُولَ فَرَّقۡتَ بَيۡنَ بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ وَلَمۡ تَرۡقُبۡ قَوۡلِي
[Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, do not seize [me] by my beard or by my head. Indeed, I feared that you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel, and you did not observe [or await] my word.'"

Al-Mukhtasar
When Moses grabbed his brother by his beard and head, dragging and scolding him for what he did, Aaron said to him, seeking his compassion: Do not hold my beard and the hair on my head, for I have a reason for staying with them. I feared that if I left them alone, they would have dispersed. Then you would have said I split them up and did not maintain your advice regarding them.
