وَلَوۡ نَشَآءُ لَطَمَسۡنَا عَلَىٰٓ أَعۡيُنِهِمۡ فَٱسۡتَبَقُواْ ٱلصِّرَٰطَ فَأَنَّىٰ يُبۡصِرُونَ
And if We willed, We could have obliterated their eyes, and they would race to [find] the path, and how could they see?1277
Translator notes (1)
- 1277 Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) could have left man without means of guidance in the life of this world, although in His mercy He did not.

Al-Mukhtasar
If We wished to remove their sight, We could have done so, and they would have been unable to see; they would then have rushed towards the bridge to cross it into Paradise, but it is unlikely that they would cross it while their sight is lost.
