That is a nation which has passed on. It will have [the consequence of] what it earned, and you will have what you have earned. And you will not be asked about what they used to do.

Al-Mukhtasar
That was a nation that has passed on before you. They have proceeded to the deeds they sent forth, and they will face the consequence thereof, and you will face [the consequence of] what you have earned. You will not be asked about their deeds, and they will not be asked about your deeds. No one is held accountable for the sins of another. Only belief and fear of Allah will be of benefit; instead, everyone will be recompensed for their own deeds.
