وَإِذۡ أَخَذۡنَا مِيثَٰقَكُمۡ وَرَفَعۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمُ ٱلطُّورَ خُذُواْ مَآ ءَاتَيۡنَٰكُم بِقُوَّةٖ وَٱذۡكُرُواْ مَا فِيهِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَتَّقُونَ
And [recall] when We took your covenant, [O Children of Israel, to abide by the Torah] and We raised over you the mount, [saying], "Take what We have given you with determination and remember what is in it that perhaps you may become righteous."

Al-Mukhtasar
Remember when We took your firm covenant, O Children of Israel, to believe in Allah and His Messenger. We raised the mountain over you as a warning and to instill fear of the consequences of not abiding by the covenant, telling you: Take the Torah that we have revealed to you with seriousness and diligence, without taking it for granted or being lazy about it. And protect what it [the Torah] contains and ponder upon it so that you might start working to protect yourself against Allah's punishment.
