And We made it a deterrent punishment for those who were present and those who succeeded [them] and a lesson for those who fear Allāh.

Al-Mukhtasar
Allah made an example out of this transgressing village for surrounding villages and an example to those who came after so that they would not engage in the same behavior and become deserving of its consequences. And We made it a reminder for the pious who fear Allah's punishment and His retribution for transgressing His limits.
