هُوَ ٱلَّذِيٓ أَخۡرَجَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ مِن دِيَٰرِهِمۡ لِأَوَّلِ ٱلۡحَشۡرِۚ مَا ظَنَنتُمۡ أَن يَخۡرُجُواْۖ وَظَنُّوٓاْ أَنَّهُم مَّانِعَتُهُمۡ حُصُونُهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ فَأَتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَمۡ يَحۡتَسِبُواْۖ وَقَذَفَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ ٱلرُّعۡبَۚ يُخۡرِبُونَ بُيُوتَهُم بِأَيۡدِيهِمۡ وَأَيۡدِي ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ فَٱعۡتَبِرُواْ يَٰٓأُوْلِي ٱلۡأَبۡصَٰرِ
It is He who expelled the ones who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture1651 from their homes at the first gathering.1652 You did not think they would leave, and they thought that their fortresses would protect them from Allāh; but [the decree of] Allāh came upon them from where they had not expected, and He cast terror into their hearts [so] they destroyed their houses by their [own] hands and the hands of the believers. So take warning, O people of vision.

Al-Mukhtasar
He is the One who expelled [the tribe of] Banu An-Nadeer, who disbelieved in Allah and rejected His Messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, from their homes in Medina for their first expulsion from Medina to the Levant. They are from the Jews, people of the Torah. He expelled them for breaking their covenant and being with the polytheists against Him. He expelled them to the Land of the Levant. You did not think, O believers, they would be expelled from their homes due to their might and strength. And they assumed that their forts, which they perfected, would secure them from Allah's punishment and torment. But Allah's retribution came from where they did not expect when His Messenger commanded fighting them and banishing them from their homes. Allah placed intense fear in their hearts. They destroy their homes with their own hands from within so that the Muslims would not benefit from them, and the Muslims destroy them from the outside. So take admonishment, O people of sight, from what occurred to them due to their disbelief. So do not be like them, so you avoid receiving their requital and the punishment that they were punished with.
