يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَتَّخِذُواْ بِطَانَةٗ مِّن دُونِكُمۡ لَا يَأۡلُونَكُمۡ خَبَالٗا وَدُّواْ مَا عَنِتُّمۡ قَدۡ بَدَتِ ٱلۡبَغۡضَآءُ مِنۡ أَفۡوَٰهِهِمۡ وَمَا تُخۡفِي صُدُورُهُمۡ أَكۡبَرُۚ قَدۡ بَيَّنَّا لَكُمُ ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِۖ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ
O you who have believed, do not take as intimates those other than yourselves [i.e., believers], for they will not spare you [any] ruin. They wish you would have hardship. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, and what their breasts conceal is greater. We have certainly made clear to you the signs, if you will use reason.

Al-Mukhtasar
O you who believe in Allah and follow His Messenger, do not take disbelievers as close and true friends, letting them know your secrets and the particulars of your state of affairs. They will not slacken in seeking to harm you and corrupt your state of affairs. They wish for the occurrence of what will harm you and cause difficulty for you. Aversion and hostility have appeared on their tongues through defamation of your religion, incidents between you, and spilling your secrets. The aversion they conceal in their chests is even greater. Evident proofs of what is in your best interest in the worldly life and the Afterlife have been made clear to you, O believers, if only you would realize what your Lord has revealed to you.
