وَمَا مُحَمَّدٌ إِلَّا رَسُولٞ قَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِن قَبۡلِهِ ٱلرُّسُلُۚ أَفَإِيْن مَّاتَ أَوۡ قُتِلَ ٱنقَلَبۡتُمۡ عَلَىٰٓ أَعۡقَٰبِكُمۡۚ وَمَن يَنقَلِبۡ عَلَىٰ عَقِبَيۡهِ فَلَن يَضُرَّ ٱللَّهَ شَيۡـٔٗاۚ وَسَيَجۡزِي ٱللَّهُ ٱلشَّٰكِرِينَ
Muḥammad is not but a messenger. [Other] messengers have passed on before him. So if he was to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels [to unbelief]? And he who turns back on his heels will never harm Allāh at all; but Allāh will reward the grateful.

Al-Mukhtasar
When news spread among the people on the day of Uhud that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم had been killed, Allah revealed the following as a rebuke to those from among the believers who refrained from fighting further due to this, stating:
Muhammad is but a messenger like the messengers of Allah who preceded him: they passed away or were killed. If he were to die or be killed, would you apostate from your religion and abandon the fight? Whoever among you apostates from his religion will not harm Allah in any way. He is the Omnipotent, the Almighty. The apostate only harms themself through exposure to the loss in the worldly life and the Afterlife. Allah will abundantly reward those thankful to Him by making them firm in His religion and their fighting in His path.
