إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ جَآءُو بِٱلۡإِفۡكِ عُصۡبَةٞ مِّنكُمۡۚ لَا تَحۡسَبُوهُ شَرّٗا لَّكُمۖ بَلۡ هُوَ خَيۡرٞ لَّكُمۡۚ لِكُلِّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُم مَّا ٱكۡتَسَبَ مِنَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِۚ وَٱلَّذِي تَوَلَّىٰ كِبۡرَهُۥ مِنۡهُمۡ لَهُۥ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٞ
Indeed, those who came with falsehood978 are a group among you. Do not think it bad for you; rather, it is good for you. For every person among them is what [punishment] he has earned from the sin, and he who took upon himself the greater portion thereof979 - for him is a great punishment [i.e., Hellfire].

Al-Mukhtasar
Those who brought the slander—accusing the Mother of the Believers Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) of adultery—are a group that affiliates themselves to you, O believers. Do not consider the slander they made as bad for you. Rather, it is good due to the reward and expiation for the believers and the clearing of the name of the Mother of the Believers it brings with it. For each person who shared in accusing her of adultery is the sin they earned by uttering the slander. And there is a great punishment for the one who bore most of the slander by initiating it. The one meant by that is the leader of the hypocrites, Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul.
