Surah Ar-Ra'd 13:14 الرعد

لَهُۥ دَعۡوَةُ ٱلۡحَقِّۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا يَسۡتَجِيبُونَ لَهُم بِشَيۡءٍ إِلَّا كَبَٰسِطِ كَفَّيۡهِ إِلَى ٱلۡمَآءِ لِيَبۡلُغَ فَاهُ وَمَا هُوَ بِبَٰلِغِهِۦۚ وَمَا دُعَآءُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ إِلَّا فِي ضَلَٰلٖ
To Him [alone] is the supplication of truth. And those they call upon besides Him do not respond to them with a thing, except as one who stretches his hands toward water [from afar, calling it] to reach his mouth, but it will not reach it [thus].634 And the supplication of the disbelievers is not but in error [i.e., futility].

Al-Mukhtasar
The calling of Oneness is for Allah alone, and no one shares this with Him. The idols that the polytheists invoke besides Allah do not answer the invocations of those who call upon them in any matter at all. Their invocations to them are nothing more than a thirsty person stretching his hand to water to reach his mouth so that he may drink from it, yet the water will never reach his mouth. The supplications of the disbelievers to their idols are nothing but misguidance and a departure from correctness because they cannot bring benefit to them nor repel harm.
