لَوۡ خَرَجُواْ فِيكُم مَّا زَادُوكُمۡ إِلَّا خَبَالٗا وَلَأَوۡضَعُواْ خِلَٰلَكُمۡ يَبۡغُونَكُمُ ٱلۡفِتۡنَةَ وَفِيكُمۡ سَمَّٰعُونَ لَهُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمُۢ بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
Had they gone forth with you, they would not have increased you except in confusion, and they would have been active among you, seeking [to cause] you fitnah [i.e., chaos and dissension]. And among you are avid listeners to them. And Allāh is Knowing of the wrongdoers.

Al-Mukhtasar
Allah reassured the believers that their deployment in battle was more harmful than their staying back, despite the demoralizing effect of their staying behind, stating:
It is good that these hypocrites do not go out with you. If they go out with you, they will only increase corruption among you by demoralizing people and casting doubts. Moreover, they would hasten in your ranks to spread gossip to disperse you. And among you, O believers, who listen to what they spread of lies, accept and spread it, and then disagreement arises between you. Allah is All-Knowing of the unjust hypocrites who cast intrigues and doubts among the believers.
