إِن تُصِبۡكَ حَسَنَةٞ تَسُؤۡهُمۡۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡكَ مُصِيبَةٞ يَقُولُواْ قَدۡ أَخَذۡنَآ أَمۡرَنَا مِن قَبۡلُ وَيَتَوَلَّواْ وَّهُمۡ فَرِحُونَ
If good befalls you, it distresses them; but if disaster strikes you, they say, "We took our matter [in hand] before,"485 and turn away while they are rejoicing.

Al-Mukhtasar
If you obtain a blessing from Allah, O Messenger of Allah, with what makes you happy regarding victory or spoil, they hate that and grieve for it. On the other hand, if a calamity befalls you due to the severity or victory of an enemy, these hypocrites say: We took precautions for ourselves. Moreover, we took firmness when we did not go out to fight as the believers did, so they [the believers] were afflicted by killing and captivity. Then, these hypocrites go back to their families, rejoicing in their safety.
