وَمَا لَهُمۡ أَلَّا يُعَذِّبَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَهُمۡ يَصُدُّونَ عَنِ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِ وَمَا كَانُوٓاْ أَوۡلِيَآءَهُۥٓۚ إِنۡ أَوۡلِيَآؤُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ
But why should Allāh not punish them while they obstruct [people] from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām and they were not [fit to be] its guardians? Its [true] guardians are not but the righteous, but most of them do not know.

Al-Mukhtasar
What could prevent their torment while they have committed what obliges it, including preventing people from praying and making tawaf (circumambulation) in the Sacred Mosque? The polytheists are not the allies of Allah, for Allah's allies are only the heedful who take heed of Him by complying with His commands and avoiding His prohibitions. But most polytheists are unaware when they claim that they are His allies while they are not.
