وَسۡـَٔلۡهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلۡقَرۡيَةِ ٱلَّتِي كَانَتۡ حَاضِرَةَ ٱلۡبَحۡرِ إِذۡ يَعۡدُونَ فِي ٱلسَّبۡتِ إِذۡ تَأۡتِيهِمۡ حِيتَانُهُمۡ يَوۡمَ سَبۡتِهِمۡ شُرَّعٗا وَيَوۡمَ لَا يَسۡبِتُونَ لَا تَأۡتِيهِمۡۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَبۡلُوهُم بِمَا كَانُواْ يَفۡسُقُونَ
And ask them about the town that was by the sea - when they transgressed in [the matter of] the sabbath - when their fish came to them openly on their sabbath day, and the day they had no sabbath they did not come to them. Thus did We give them trial because they were defiantly disobedient.

Al-Mukhtasar
O Messenger, ask the Jews, in reminder to them of what Allah punished their predecessors with, about the story of the town near the sea when they would transgress the bounds of Allah by fishing on Saturday after they were prohibited from that; when Allah tested them such that the fish would come to them, apparent on the sea's surface on Saturday, and on the remaining days of the week, the fish would not come. Allah tested them with that because they abandoned obedience to Allah and committed acts of disobedience. So, they used trickery, casting their nets and digging their holes so the fish would get caught in them on Saturday. Then, on Sunday, they would take them and eat them.
