قَدۡ نَرَىٰ تَقَلُّبَ وَجۡهِكَ فِي ٱلسَّمَآءِۖ فَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَ قِبۡلَةٗ تَرۡضَىٰهَاۚ فَوَلِّ وَجۡهَكَ شَطۡرَ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِۚ وَحَيۡثُ مَا كُنتُمۡ فَوَلُّواْ وُجُوهَكُمۡ شَطۡرَهُۥۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ لَيَعۡلَمُونَ أَنَّهُ ٱلۡحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمۡۗ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ بِغَٰفِلٍ عَمَّا يَعۡمَلُونَ
We have certainly seen the turning of your face, [O Muḥammad], toward the heaven, and We will surely turn you to a qiblah with which you will be pleased. So turn your face [i.e., yourself] toward al-Masjid al-Ḥarām.53 And wherever you [believers] are, turn your faces [i.e., yourselves] toward it [in prayer]. Indeed, those who have been given the Scripture [i.e., the Jews and the Christians] well know that it is the truth from their Lord. And Allāh is not unaware of what they do.

Al-Mukhtasar
We have seen you, O Prophet, turning your face and sight towards the sky, anticipating revelation regarding the direction of prayer and changing it to the direction you love. So, we will turn you to a direction of prayer that you love and are pleased with, the Sacred House of Allah, instead of Jerusalem. So, turn your face toward the Sacred House of Allah in Mecca. Wherever you are, O believers, face its direction to perform the prayer. Those who have been given the book from the Jews and the Christians know that changing the direction of prayer is the truth sent down from their Creator and the One who manages their affairs because it is mentioned in their book. Allah is not unaware of what those who turn away from the truth do. He (may He be Exalted) is aware of that and will recompense them accordingly.
