يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱجۡتَنِبُواْ كَثِيرٗا مِّنَ ٱلظَّنِّ إِنَّ بَعۡضَ ٱلظَّنِّ إِثۡمٞۖ وَلَا تَجَسَّسُواْ وَلَا يَغۡتَب بَّعۡضُكُم بَعۡضًاۚ أَيُحِبُّ أَحَدُكُمۡ أَن يَأۡكُلَ لَحۡمَ أَخِيهِ مَيۡتٗا فَكَرِهۡتُمُوهُۚ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ تَوَّابٞ رَّحِيمٞ
O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allāh; indeed, Allāh is Accepting of Repentance and Merciful.

Al-Mukhtasar
O you who believe in Allah and act by what He legislated for them, avoid most suspicions not based on causes and indications that give them credence because some forms of suspicion are sinful, like suspecting one who is pious. And do not pursue the faults of believers behind their backs, nor mention another in a manner he dislikes, because mentioning him in a way he dislikes is like eating his dead flesh. Would any of you wish to eat the dead flesh of his dead brother? Therefore, hate backbiting him because it is the same thing. And fear Allah by fulfilling His commands and refraining from what He has prohibited. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving of those of His slaves who repent, Ever-Merciful to them.
