وَإِذۡ قُلۡنَا لَكَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ أَحَاطَ بِٱلنَّاسِۚ وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا ٱلرُّءۡيَا ٱلَّتِيٓ أَرَيۡنَٰكَ إِلَّا فِتۡنَةٗ لِّلنَّاسِ وَٱلشَّجَرَةَ ٱلۡمَلۡعُونَةَ فِي ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِۚ وَنُخَوِّفُهُمۡ فَمَا يَزِيدُهُمۡ إِلَّا طُغۡيَٰنٗا كَبِيرٗا
And [remember, O Muḥammad], when We told you, "Indeed, your Lord has encompassed the people."757 And We did not make the sight which We showed you758 except as a trial for the people, as was the accursed tree [mentioned] in the Qur’ān. And We threaten [i.e., warn] them, but it increases them not except in great transgression.

Al-Mukhtasar
And remember, O Messenger, when I said to you: Your Lord has encompassed the people in His power, and they are in His control. Allah will protect you from them, so convey what you have been ordered to convey. I did not make what I clearly showed you on the Night Journey except as a test for the people; do they believe it or reject it? And I did not make the tree of Zaqqum, which is mentioned in the Quran as growing from the bottom of the Inferno, except as a test for them. Thus, if they do not believe in these signs, they will never believe in anything else. I frighten them by sending signs, but they do not increase through them except in disbelief and descending further into misguidance.
