۞ وَٱتۡلُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَبَأَ ٱبۡنَيۡ ءَادَمَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ إِذۡ قَرَّبَا قُرۡبَانٗا فَتُقُبِّلَ مِنۡ أَحَدِهِمَا وَلَمۡ يُتَقَبَّلۡ مِنَ ٱلۡأٓخَرِ قَالَ لَأَقۡتُلَنَّكَۖ قَالَ إِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ
And recite to them the story of Adam's two sons, in truth, when they both made an offering [to Allāh], and it was accepted from one of them but was not accepted from the other. Said [the latter], "I will surely kill you." Said [the former], "Indeed, Allāh only accepts from the righteous [who fear Him].

Al-Mukhtasar
O Messenger, tell those jealous wrongdoers from the Jews the true and undoubtable story of Adam's two sons, Cain and Abel. They offered a sacrifice to gain closeness to Allah (may He be Exalted), so Allah accepted Abel's sacrifice because he feared Allah, but He did not accept Cain's sacrifice because he did not fear Allah. Cain was upset with jealousy that Abel's sacrifice was accepted and said: I am going to kill you, Abel. Abel replied: Allah only accepts the sacrifice of those who fear Him by fulfilling His commands and abstaining from His prohibitions.
