إِذۡ أَنتُم بِٱلۡعُدۡوَةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَهُم بِٱلۡعُدۡوَةِ ٱلۡقُصۡوَىٰ وَٱلرَّكۡبُ أَسۡفَلَ مِنكُمۡۚ وَلَوۡ تَوَاعَدتُّمۡ لَٱخۡتَلَفۡتُمۡ فِي ٱلۡمِيعَٰدِ وَلَٰكِن لِّيَقۡضِيَ ٱللَّهُ أَمۡرٗا كَانَ مَفۡعُولٗا لِّيَهۡلِكَ مَنۡ هَلَكَ عَنۢ بَيِّنَةٖ وَيَحۡيَىٰ مَنۡ حَيَّ عَنۢ بَيِّنَةٖۗ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَسَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
[Remember] when you were on the near side of the valley, and they were on the farther side, and the caravan was lower [in position] than you. If you had made an appointment [to meet], you would have missed the appointment. But [it was] so that Allāh might accomplish a matter already destined - that those who perished [through disbelief] would perish upon evidence and those who lived [in faith] would live upon evidence; and indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

Al-Mukhtasar
And remember, when you were on the near side of the valley towards Medina, the polytheists were on the far side towards Mecca, and the caravan was at a spot lower than you by the Red Sea. If you and the polytheists had agreed to meet at Badr, neither of you would have missed each other. But Allah (may He be Exalted) gathered you at Badr without an agreement to complete a matter that was to pass: the victory of the believers, the desertion of the disbelievers, the honoring of His religion, and the humiliation of polytheism. [That was] so that whoever died amongst them would die after proof had been established against him through the believers' victory despite their lack of numbers and equipment, and whoever lived would live after evidence and proof that Allah made apparent to him. So, no one will have any proof to argue against Allah. Allah hears everyone's statements and knows their actions. None of those are hidden from Him, and He will compensate them based on them.
