وَإِذۡ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّي جَاعِلٞ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ خَلِيفَةٗۖ قَالُوٓاْ أَتَجۡعَلُ فِيهَا مَن يُفۡسِدُ فِيهَا وَيَسۡفِكُ ٱلدِّمَآءَ وَنَحۡنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمۡدِكَ وَنُقَدِّسُ لَكَۖ قَالَ إِنِّيٓ أَعۡلَمُ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority."17 They said, "Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we exalt You with praise and declare Your perfection?"18 He [Allāh] said, "Indeed, I know that which you do not know."

Al-Mukhtasar
Allah informs the angels that He would put humans on earth who would give birth to other humans and inhabit it to worship Allah. The angels asked their Lord, trying to understand, what the wisdom behind making the children of Adam guardians of the earth was when they would spread ruin within it and unjustly spill blood, saying: while we [the angels] are obedient to You, extol You, praise You, glorify Your Majesty and Perfection without hesitation. Allah replied to their question, stating: I know what you do not know of the incredible wisdom in their creation and the great objectives behind their succession.
