إِذَا زُلۡزِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ زِلۡزَالَهَا

When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake

99:1
وَأَخۡرَجَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ أَثۡقَالَهَا

And the earth discharges its burdens¹⁹⁶²

وَقَالَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا لَهَا

And man says,¹⁹⁶³ "What is [wrong] with it?" -

99:3
يَوۡمَئِذٖ تُحَدِّثُ أَخۡبَارَهَا

That Day, it will report its news

99:4
بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَ أَوۡحَىٰ لَهَا

Because your Lord has inspired [i.e., commanded] it.

99:5
يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَصۡدُرُ ٱلنَّاسُ أَشۡتَاتٗا لِّيُرَوۡاْ أَعۡمَٰلَهُمۡ

That Day, the people will depart¹⁹⁶⁴ separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds.

1. 1964 From the place of Judgement to their final abode. Another interpretation is "emerge separately" (from the graves) .
99:6
فَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيۡرٗا يَرَهُۥ

So whoever does an atom's weight¹⁹⁶⁵ of good will see it,

99:7
وَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٖ شَرّٗا يَرَهُۥ

And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.
