Surah Al-Baqarah 2:177 البقرة

Doing good that pleases Allah does not just mean turning towards the east or the west or differing over it. Rather, all virtue is in the one who has faith in Allah as the sole deity, the Day of Resurrection, all of the angels, all of the revealed scriptures, and all of the prophets without discrimination. He is the one who spends in charity, despite his love and desire for it, towards his relatives, the orphan (i.e. the one who lost his father before the age of puberty), the poor, the stranger who is cut off from his family and homeland while traveling, those who encounter a need that causes them to ask people for help, and to free slaves from enslavement and captivity. He is the one who establishes the prayer and performs it completely as Allah instructed and pays the Zakat that is obligatory on him. They uphold their promises if they make one, have patience through poverty, hardship, illness, and do not flee in the heat of battle. The people described with these characteristics are the ones who are true to Allah in their faith and their actions. They are the ones who are truly pious in that they follow what Allah has commanded them to do and refrain from what Allah has prohibited for them.
