شَهۡرُ رَمَضَانَ ٱلَّذِيٓ أُنزِلَ فِيهِ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ هُدٗى لِّلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَٰتٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَٱلۡفُرۡقَانِۚ فَمَن شَهِدَ مِنكُمُ ٱلشَّهۡرَ فَلۡيَصُمۡهُۖ وَمَن كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوۡ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٖ فَعِدَّةٞ مِّنۡ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَۗ يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ بِكُمُ ٱلۡيُسۡرَ وَلَا يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ ٱلۡعُسۡرَ وَلِتُكۡمِلُواْ ٱلۡعِدَّةَ وَلِتُكَبِّرُواْ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ مَا هَدَىٰكُمۡ وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ
The month of Ramaḍān [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’ān, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the crescent of] the month,66 let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allāh intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allāh for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.

Al-Mukhtasar
The Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم on the Night of Decree in the month of Ramadan. Allah revealed it as a guide for people, with clear proof of its guidance and the criteria to distinguish truth from falsehood. Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and is in sound health is required to fast. Whoever is ill such that fasting is difficult or is traveling is allowed not to fast. If they do not fast, then they must make up these fasts for the days they missed at another time. Allah intends to have you traverse the path of ease and not hardship in what He decrees for you. He wants you to complete fasting all days of the month and glorify Him upon the completion of Ramadan, on the day of Eid, as He aided you and made it possible for you to fast. This is so you thank Allah for guiding you to this religion, which He has approved for you.
