Surah An-Nisa 4:46 النساء

Among the Jews are evil people who alter the speech Allah has sent down, misconstruing it. They say to the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم when he commands them in something: We hear what you said, and we disobey your command. They also mockingly say: Listen to what we say. You did not hear [properly]. [Muslims] received a false impression when [Jews] said, "Rā`inā" thinking that they meant "lend us your ear," when they intended imprudence by twisting [the meaning] in their language, intending to supplicate against the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. They intended to insult the religion. If they had said, "We hear your statements and obey your commands," instead of "We hear your statements and disobey your commands"; "Listen," instead of "Listen to us, you did not hear"; and "Wait for us to understand what you say," that would have been better and more just for them than what they said at first. In [saying what is better and more just], there is excellent etiquette befitting the honor of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. However, Allah cursed them and removed them from His mercy due to their disbelief, for they do not believe in a way that benefits them.
